Good idea to wait until you've finished it to watch the movie - it does somewhat stand alone but all the little in-jokes and nuances aren't as obvious without watching the series first. Don't forget to check out the extras on the last disc - they put a lot of work into it, and while a few are sad they are well worth checking out (including the hidden one!)
