If you’re interested in seeing tons of pictures of Connor, check out Brewster Zone.

A big reason it’s taken so long to get this set up is that I’ve been hunting for a gallery blog solution for quite awhile. I finally settled on zenphoto. It’s lightweight and, most important, supports publishing straight from Windows.

Not to mention that it’s got a great, very responsive community behind it.

Three thumbs up.

Crossing The Bar http://blog.crankygeek.com/archives/2006/11/06/crossing-the-bar/ http://blog.crankygeek.com/archives/2006/11/06/crossing-the-bar/#comments Mon, 06 Nov 2006 23:47:04 +0000 crankygeek http://blog.crankygeek.com/?p=83 Alfred Lord Tennyson – Crossing The Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Looking for video camera advice http://blog.crankygeek.com/archives/2006/04/21/looking-for-video-camera-advice/ http://blog.crankygeek.com/archives/2006/04/21/looking-for-video-camera-advice/#comments Fri, 21 Apr 2006 16:05:29 +0000 crankygeek http://blog.crankygeek.com/?p=68 With our new baby’s arrival only a few weeks away, I’m planning on buying a video camera.

No, I don’t want to record the birth. Yuck.

But I do want to record all that other stuff that only parents love to remember and force their family and friends to watch. The problem is, I don’t know diddly about video cameras. So I’m looking for advice. As far as criteria goes:

  • I don’t want to break the bank, but I don’t want to buy on the cheap since you usually get what you pay for.
  • Smaller is better. I’d like it to be as portable as possible, but don’t want to lose any must-have features just to save a few ounces of weight.
  • Needs to be PC and Mac friendly.
  • Can I expect good things of any software bundled with the camera? If not, I’m thinking of using iMovie 5 on my Mac, but if there’s something better that, again, won’t break the bank, I’d like to hear about it. If iMovie is the way to go, are there any compelling reasons to upgrade to iLife ‘06?
  • And probably most important of all, are there any other questions that I should be asking but haven’t?

I promise that everyone who provides advice will not be forced to watch baby videos. :)

Who wants to know if the baby is a boy or a girl? http://blog.crankygeek.com/archives/2005/12/21/who-wants-to-know-if-the-baby-is-a-boy-or-a-girl/ http://blog.crankygeek.com/archives/2005/12/21/who-wants-to-know-if-the-baby-is-a-boy-or-a-girl/#comments Wed, 21 Dec 2005 20:28:54 +0000 crankygeek http://blog.crankygeek.com/?p=53 I bet every couple goes through this. We’ll be going in for a high-res ultrasound shortly which is quite likely to give us the details. I’d like to know if it’s a boy or a girl, but my wife wants to wait.

I spoke with a few others about this and they are all on my wife’s side. :)

I’ll probably end up waiting as well since my wife is afraid that I may let it slip at some point.
